sunrise at Hanging Rock

Sunrise at Hanging Rock

Hanging Rock, Blackheath, New South Wales

I camped in the Blue Mountains one weekend and had this awesome scene greet me in the morning. Initially we thought we were lucky getting a good amount of cloud in the valley behind the rock. However the cloud moved in quite rapidly and several minutes after this image was captured the entire view was whited out. Luckily we were able to capture a few images before visibility was restricted and we had to abandon the shoot.

Twin Pines

Twin Pines

Barossa Valley, South Australia

This was taken at sunset in the Barossa Ranges. I came across these two beautiful pine trees on top of a ridge. Luckily I also got quite an interesting sky whilst I was up there, which looked quite stunning combined with the orange evening light.

Crescent Moon at Lake Oberon

Crescent Moon at Lake Oberon

Western Arthur Range, Southwest National Park, Tasmania

The Milky Way rising over Lake Oberon between Mount Pegasus north and south. The southwest region of Tasmania is home to some of the most severe weather in Australia. This image was taken on an uncharacteristically clear morning at 3am. The moon can also be seen in the left of frame.

Pelverata Falls, Snug Tiers Recreation Reserve, Tasmania

Pelverata Falls on a crisp, clear, moonlit night. It’s quite an amazing scene when the core of the milky way moves directly over the top of these falls, even if only for a few fleeting minutes.

Sunset at the Twelve Apostles

Sunset at the Twelve Apostles

Twelve Apostles, Great Ocean Road, Victoria

The sun setting over the Twelve Apostles on the first day of 2014.

The amazing thing about this image was the weather preceding it. The day was overcast, windy, rainy, and generally horrible. After several hours of waiting out at the location I was certain sunset was going to be clouded out. I went back to my accommodation feeling disappointed that the effort I had put into getting to this location was potentially wasted. After a few minutes of resting I had the presence of mind to check out the window of my cabin just before sunset. The weather had blown over, and given rise to a beautiful red glowing light. I rushed back and was able to capture this scene. It was a good lesson in never giving up on a shoot!

Stony Creek sunrise

Stony Creek Sunrise

Stony Creek, Coalcliff, NSW

Visiting this location for sunrise I had originally planned to photograph the rock pool. However, the creek in the distance caught my eye so I went over to investigate. Getting low down I was able to accentuate the sand walls created by creek, and it was all topped off with a stunning sunrise!

McLean Falls, a waterfall of the Tautuku River in Catlins Forest Park, Southland, New Zealand.

My tripod was positioned rather precariously on wet rocks to take this shot, but was totally worth it. I didn’t expect the streaking froth from the waterfall to be so effective in the composition.
